My Top Four New York City Photographers
Ok so this article might not make any sense as I’m pointing out what might be deemed as competition. The fact is that there are so many amazing photographers in the world and even more people who likely can’t afford to hire them. I also am a huge fan of great photography so spreading the love is never a bad thing. For the record, all the photos on this page are credited to the photographers I am referencing and linking to and are not my work. It’s also important to note that I only am including active photographers.
#1 Portrait Photography- Ted Ely
Here’s the thing, portraits are my favorite thing and I think I have some excellent photos. I also love connecting with people and working to get the best out of them. Ted is at a completely different level from anyone I’ve seen. The lighting is perfect, he’s incredibly consistent, and his editing is incredible. Check Ted’s work out on Instagram.
#2 Event Photography- Sasha Lecca
One thing that’s confusing when it comes to the photographers who have access to celebrities. How often would those photographers be average but for that access. Sasha Lecca, as a Rolling Stone Editor certainly has plenty of access and his work completely blows my mind. As a collection, I’m drawn to his use of grain and his ability to pull me into the concert experience offering new perspectives. You can see Sasha’s work on Instagram or better yet, buy his book!
#3 Fashion Photographer- Jayme Thornton
Admittedly, fashion photography isn’t my thing. I have some experience in the space but not much. As I’ve been researching photographers New York, Jayme Thornton stood out right away. This is likely because his portfolio leans heavily on what I would consider fashion portraits. The pose in the photo below is incredible to me setting aside the perfect make-up and hair. In any case, check out Mr. Thornton’s website to see more of his portfolio.
#4 Street Photographer - Daniel Arnold
One of the best opportunities for learning about street photography is through Paulie B’s Youtube Channel, Walkie Talkie. If you haven’t checked it out yet, please check it out! As far as Daniel Arnold is concerned, his work is is unpredictable, diverse, and all encompassing. Just like New York City. Check out his Instagram.
Thanks for checking out my list. In a world filled with exceptional photographers, celebrating the artistry and talent of each individual is paramount. This article aimed to spotlight the brilliance of photographers who stand out in the realm of portrait photography. Despite the natural competition that arises in such a diverse field, the intention is to share appreciation for the craft and the artists behind the lens. It's a nod to the countless talented photographers worldwide, acknowledging their work and the beauty they capture. Remember, the art of photography is a shared passion, and there's always room for admiration and support and while my list likely isn’t yours my hope is that one day I’ll get on someones list so I’ll keep working to improve my art.
